Where beautiful woodturning creations begin
Just a little about me.
Married with grown up children, living with my good lady wife in Welling, London Borough of Bexleyheath. Started woodturning as a retirement hobby seven years ago. I work with various species of wood but sometimes I combine resin and wood Burl in the same piece. The effects are stunning in Trinket Boxes and Spheres. I use commercial spindle and bowl blanks as and when required but I get the most satisfaction salvaging felled trees that would be shredded or burnt and turning them into something decorative / useful.
Wood turning is the craft of using a wood lathe with hand-held tools to cut a shape that is symmetrical around the axis of rotation that can generate a variety of forms." "Transforming something ordinary into the extraordinary."
I am constantly amazed how piece of old tree suddenly produces a wonderful grain pattern and chatoyence. It can take several years for timber to dry out sufficiently to turn on the lathe so patience is indeed a virtue. I have made various items for Weddings, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Bowls, Platters. Pens etc and have replicated small numbers of broken stair spindles and chair stretchers to order.
